The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) launched a business network aimed at developing the availability and affordability of nutritious foods in Ethiopia last week. The Scaling Up Nutrition Business Network (SBN) will work with stakeholders engaged in the food sector to assess the obstacles facing nutrition, facilitate partnerships with development organisations, and create an enabling environment to incentivise businesses to act on nutrition-related issues. The SBN is one of four global networks under the Scaling Up Nutrition movement, which works with 61 countries globally (including Ethiopia) to address malnutrition and food insecurity. Ethiopia has been making strides in curbing malnutrition over the past two decades, with growth stunting in the country declining from 58pc in 2000 to 38pc in 2016. Regardless of the progress, much of the population is still at high risk for micronutrient deficiencies. The country has one of the world's highest rates of malnutrition alongside India, Nigeria, Bangladesh, and Pakistan.
