The Oromia Industrial Parks Development Corporation inked a deal with Walabu Construction S.C. for the construction of a 7.8-billion-Br agro-industrial park in Nekemte Town, Oromia Regional State. The agreement was signed just a few weeks after the Ethiopian Investment Commission announced that the government will no longer build industrial parks. The park will cover 250ha of land, and the construction is expected to be completed in three years with the budget fully covered by the regional government. The park is expected to house plants that process coffee, tea, oilseeds and grains as well as meat, poultry and dairy products. The construction phase is hoped to create over 3,000 jobs, while the processing plants are expected to create employment opportunities for 50,000 people once construction is completed, according to Sisay Gemechu, head of the Corporation.
