A roadmap for the chemical industry has been launched with funding from the United Nations Industrial Development Organization. The organization granted 400,000 dollars to draft the roadmap, which took one year to prepare. “The finding of the research has shown vast technological and expertise gaps in the Ethiopian chemical industry,” says Deyesa Leta, director of Chemical Industry Development Institute. The roadmap suggests sustainable solutions for identified setbacks in the sector and urged universities and vocational colleges to revise their training approach. The roadmap further directed how the industry could harmonize with the country’s environmental economic policy. Lack of technological advancement in the chemical industry is undermining Ethiopia’s competency in the global market, according to Deyesa.
