The Ethiopian Road Fund Office has announced that it collected nearly 1.5 billion Br from tariffs and other sources over the first half of the current fiscal year. The Office managed to garner 98pc of what it had targeted over that time period. Nearly 1.4 billion Br was collected from tariffs levied on petroleum products, while the remainder was sourced through other fees like the renewal of vehicle permits. The Office disclosed that it paid out about 1.1 billion Br to various road agencies over the same period. During this reporting period, the road agency has reported that it completed routine and seasonal reparation of 12,000Km and 1,250Km of roads, respectively, spending 761.1 million Br in total. The Office was established in 1997 by a private-public partnership to serve as a financial platform for road maintenance and road safety measures in Ethiopia.
