The Construction Works Regulatory Authority has announced that it will be more stringent in its follow-up, particularly with regard to delays at road and industrial construction projects, stressing that construction is a fundamental stepping stone to the commencement of any business or industry. The announcement came during a new campaign the Authority kicked off on January 23, 2021. Dubbed "A Successful Construction Industry for Ethiopian Prosperity," the campaign is being held to create awareness about its five-year strategic plan. The campaign will be a month-long affair during which discussion events will be held in the cities of Hawassa, Jimma, Debre Birhan, Jijiga and Adama. It is expected to involve the participation of over 1,000 representatives from all of the regional states, the Addis Abeba and Dire Dawa city administrations, federal institutions, trade unions and educational institutes. Established two years ago, the Authority oversees the quality and efficiency of the construction industry and industrial inputs. It also works on ensuring the well-being of the environment and public health with regard to construction.
