Ministry Kicks off 5b Br Irrigation Dam

The Ajema Chacha Irrigation Development Project has been launched in Angolala TeraWereda in the North Shoa Zone of Amhara Regional State. The project is expected to be completed in the coming three years and will cost five billion Birr. The cornerstone laying ceremony was attended by Agegnehu Teshager, chief administrator of Amhara Regional State, and Sileshi Bekele (PhD), minister for Water, Irrigation & Energy. Expected to have the capacity to irrigate 7,000ha of land, the irrigation project will benefit more than 28,000 households in the 10 kebeles that surround the area. The irrigation dam will have a height of 45.5m, a length of 371m, and a total capacity of 55 million cubic metres. The Irrigation Development Commission, which allocated 14.3 billion Br for the construction of irrigation dams across the country in the last fiscal year, plans to construct 14 irrigation dams for 14.7 billion Br in this fiscal year.
