City Adds New District

The Addis Abeba City Council has legislated a proclamation that restructures the capital by increasing the number of districts by one to 11. The Council has approved the formation of an additional district dubbed Lemi Kura, which will be forged through the reduction of the sizes of Bole and Yeka districts. The addition of the new district is aimed at facilitating better overall administration of the districts in the capital, according to a statement from the City Administration. During this first regular session of the Council, it also approved the appointment of Zerfeshiwal Nigussie as its new speaker, replacing Abebech Negash, who had been serving in the position for the past two and a half years. The Council also approved the appointments of new officials to different leadership positions in the City Administration. Addis Abeba currently consists of 10 districts, which have an aggregate of 116 weredasunder their structure.
