Ethiopia Gets Oxygen Donation for COVID Fight

Sep 19 , 2020

UNICEF has donated over 380 oxygen concentrators to the Ministry of Health to support the response to the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in the country. The oxygen concentrators and accessories were secured through financing from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office. Close to 100 of the concentrators will be allotted to the recently inaugurated field hospital under St. Peter's Specialised Hospital, specifically designated for COVID-19 patient care. The oxygen concentrators will also be repurposed for the treatment of pneumonia in children. Following the onset of the pandemic in Ethiopia, UNICEF has allocated 1,000 pulse oximeters and 6,000 non-COVID-19 related pulse oximeters for treatment centres. It has also provided personal protective equipment (PPE) for over 200,000 health professionals in the country working on the front line.
