The Embassy of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in Addis Abeba donated 100 food packages to refugee children that Ethiopia is hosting from Sudan, Somalia, Eritrea and South Sudan. Each food package contains 10kg of flour, five kilograms of rice, five litres of cooking oil, and one kilogram of dates. The donation was given to the children and their caregivers at a ceremony held on May 15, 2020, at the compound of Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) in Janmeda. Out of the nearly 11,000 refugee children in Addis Abeba, 1,234 are unaccompanied and separated children. JRS and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) placed 122 of them under foster and kinship family care. The children were selected from among 122 children who either came alone or were separated during the flight and are now placed under foster care arrangements by UNHCR and JRS. Wafa Alkatheeri, representing the UAE Embassy, was joined by officials from UNHCR, the Agency for Refugees and Returnees Affairs (ARRA) and JRS. At the end of April 2020, Ethiopia hosted 761,891 refugees from different countries, and 27,492 of them reside in the capital.
