A total of 33 million birr worth of materials for the containment and prevention of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) has been imported into the country since the first case of the virus was reported, according to the Ethiopian Food & Drugs Authority. During the period, the Authority licensed 237 governmental bodies, private companies, and importers to bring in the materials, as well as 110 individuals. In an effort to increase the availability of different products the Authority has been crafting directives and providing temporary production and import licenses to different businesses. The materials include masks, thermometers, hand sanitiser, gloves, goggles, ventilators, raw materials for sanitiser, oxygen equipment, and protective body suits among others.
